Flat screen TV’s just got flatter
December 27th, 2008As screens of flat screen TV’s stretch to ever-broader dimensions, their depth has begun to shrink from four inches three years ago to as little as one inch in late this year. The new Sharp LC-65XS1U-S, which is noteworthy for its large 65-inch screen and for its slim depth of 1 to 2.4 inches. Thanks to its slim chassis, the $15,999 set stands out from a wall no further than a typical picture frame would. Yet Sharp did not skimp on the set’s technical capabilities. The LC-65XS1U-S’s 1080p resolution lets it deliver maximum picture detail from any high-definition video source, and its extraordinary-rated contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 should ensure deep, realistic blacks and brilliant whites. Users can access specialized Internet-based content through Sharp’s Aquos Net capability. Energy usage is minimized by a special circuit that automatically adjusts brightness to suit the ambient light level.
