Can Forests of Artificial Trees Stop Global Warming?
As climate change accelerates, scientists keep coming up with increasingly fanciful schemes to fight it. Earlier this month we took a look at a plan to deploy ships that spray climate change-battling clouds, and now comes word from a study by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers that forests of artificial trees could potentially soak up carbon dioxide.
According to the study, 100,000 synthetic trees spread across the U.K. could remove the CO2 emissions of all cars, trucks and buses in the country. The trees, which are two-thirds as tall as average wind turbines, are coated with materials that absorb CO2. Once the trees capture carbon dioxide, it can be stored underground in empty oil and natural gas reserves.
It’s not a cheap or problem-free plan–each tree costs $24,313. And what happens to the stored CO2 in the event of an earthquake? But the fake trees are thousands of times more efficient at capturing CO2 than those pesky real trees.
IME engineers also recommend lining buildings with CO2-absorbing pots of algae and painting new buildings white to cut the amount of absorbed solar radiation. The Institute is quick to point out that these are temporary solutions to buy us a few more years of problem-solving time. Unfortunately, the general public might not see it that way. If people think that fake trees or pots of algae can solve global warming, they will be much less likely to pay attention to real climate change-fighting initiatives. That’s not to say geoengineering should be discounted, but maybe we should spend more time on long-term solutions and less time thinking of painfully expensive ideas to give us a few more years of safe CO2-spewing.
Lockerbie bomber freed

Gorden Brown the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom is under severe heat for letting the Lockerbie bomber go free just 8 years later. Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi was convicted for the bombing of the Pan Am flight 103 that left London’s Heathrow Airport to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. On Wednesday 21 December 1988, the aircraft flying this route—a Boeing 747-121 named Clipper Maid of the Seas—was destroyed by a bomb, killing all 243 passengers and 16 crew members. Eleven people in Lockerbie, southern Scotland, were killed as large sections of the plane fell in and around the town, bringing total fatalities to 270. As a result, the event has been named by the media as the Lockerbie Bombing.
Gorden Brown insisted it was “completely wrong” and “offensive” to suggest that Megrahi’s release was linked to trade deals over oil and gas. Yes people including myself wonder why would you let Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi go free after being convicted for killing 259 innocent people.
As more probing has gone into the release the prime minister was found budding up to Muammar Gaddafi at the G8 summit in Italy.
What motivation could Gorden Brown have to do a such a insulting thing to the Untied States?
Easy the same as our own corrupted governments motivation for most of our wars and beyond evil doings.

Why else would he do it? Do think other criminals would be let free if they are sick in prison. The conviction was without doubt, maybe the worst crime ever. Being released only 9 years later for killing 259 people.
You can be the judge? Do you think being sick could possibly justify letting someone go after only 9 years for such a crime?
You have to start to wonder if any country leaders have integrity anymore. Or in our case a backbone. Our president Barack Obama seems to not be angry and merly said the people connected to the deaths in the flight are mad. To what I think is a insult the Lockerbie bomber al-Megrahi tells Barack Obama ‘not to worry’ I only have three more months to live.
If this is respectable then it needs to be a law and all criminals should have the same right. I mean if anyone should not get extra rights it’s this criminal.
Drudge Report falls asleep

You would think a website that gets 1.2 million hits a day would find time to update. In the last week Drudge Report has only updated 2 times and today has no top story:
You also have to wonder why a website that gets millions of hits needs to pull such pathetic attempts for attention as to deface the president with a movie character prank. Especially with the thousands of smart factual bloggers out there now-a-days that actually dig into the story to get the unbiased facts.
There is substantially better information finders out there that get no credit yet this old power house for traffic news source seems to be getting worse on content and bigger in rep.
I just hope trends can be beet on the internet by hard work and honesty. At this point one of my favorite sites needs to be succumb to a better news medium.
I would normally put a alternative here but there is none. Some might say the bbc or new york times? For now the dreaded and slow Driudge Report is still my top favorite for a quick look at the news.
